Police are seeking two men after the death of a man by gunshot in South Auckland earlier this morning.
Police launched a homicide investigation after the discovery of a dead 28-year-old man, and a severely injured woman on Greenwood Road in Māngere Tuesday morning.
The injured woman was rushed to Auckland Hospital where she is being treated for gunshot wounds.
Detective Inspector Faa Va’aelua says police have been in contact with the injured woman to establish circumstances of the incident.
“We are confident that this is not a random incident and we are currently following positive lines of inquiries to identify two Tongan male offenders,” Va’aelua says.
Residents in the area say they are shocked at how close to home the incident happened.
“I usually go for my morning run down Greenwood [road], but I injured my knee yesterday,” one resident said.
“It’s scary how often things like this are happening now. Our post shop up the road got hit by robbers a few months ago.”
Police have asked for anyone with information to come forward, and say Greenwood Road will remain cordoned off today while a scene examination is conducted.
