Tu mai Taranaki, Tiketike mai ra tatou!

The inaugural bi-annual event that has taken the country by storm, ten years later and under the hospitality of Nga Ruahine Iwi, Taranaki Tu Mai has completed their fifth term.

Taranaki Tu Mai has been the centre of attention since 2007. Every two years each iwi has the privilege of hosting this event, bringing crowds and crowds of uri back to represent their iwi. All eight iwi of Ngati Tama, Ngati Mutunga, Te Atiawa, Ngati Maruwharanui, Taranaki Iwi, Nga Ruahine, Ngati Ruanui and Nga Rauru Kiitahi take shelter beneath Taranaki Maunga.

Te Atiawa Iwi had the privilege of starting off this auspicious event, then Taranaki Iwi after that it was Nga Rauru Kiitahi, then Ngati Mutunga and most recently Nga Ruahine Iwi.

The establishment created such an event for sustaining and maintaining Taranakitanga through Sports, Debate, Kapa Haka and Wananga. Not forgetting the whakawhanaungatanga and manaakitanga.

Taranaki Tu Mai 2019 will be travelling inland to our next host iwi of Ngati Maruwharanui, so get your gumboots ready whanau. We have an exciting two years ahead to ready ourselves for the next battle of the tribes.
