Sir David Attenborough was in Arrivals on Tuesday in Auckland International Airport, leaving Customs officers happily surprised.

The wildlife commentator was stopped going through customs, not for any wrong-doing, but instead asked if it were possible to have a picture taken with the team.

Attenborough is in Auckland for his A Quest for Life Tour and graciously stood in for a snapshot with the airport staff, captioned, “Out of its natural habitat, we see the lesser-spotted Sir David Attenborough in NZ!”. The photo of the documentary legend, next to customs dogs and officers, has spread quickly around the country.

His famous series, Planet Earth II which consists of six high definition episodes, was released in November last year and has already reached the highest ever viewing rate for a nature documentary.

The beloved icon has sold out his two shows on February 1 and 2 at The Civic in Auckland’s CBD.
